Marketing strategies a comparison….

i was just pondering about what made these big players to win the market and so went on to have a comparison of there strategies….so here is a small  conclusion that i could draw

Microsoft’s strategy is THE BEST……goes like this

Make software and sell them for higher prices…..to catch the students market…give away software cheaply to insttitutes…and sign a deal as to these software should be introduced in the curriculum….thats why our institute has adopted Visual c++ and Microsoft’s Project manager in the course work…

Outcome : Students get used to the software as well as the staff….cant do away with it….

IBM is one of the biggest software manufacturers next to Microsoft…….they spend a lot in organizing workshops and Tech Days,to spread the news around,give software for free under academic license with no aggreement.

Outcome : The news is well spread,but software given rarely get used by the institutes

Sun Microsystem’s which has been experiencing a decline in the profit margin can attribute their sad story to some strategies.They dont sell software these days(its becoming opensource….but i am not offending opensource here…)and to spread the news,they appoint someone for every institution and pay him high for the job he is supposed to do.Thats it,he does it or not,the money is deposited in the bank account,a perfect governmental organisation.May be this was one reason that prevented me from taking a chance for SunMicrosystems on campus though i was eligible.

Outcome : Huge money invested for nothing at all……….

Exam stands cancelled - By order….a story

Silence prevailed in the hostels….time of mid semester exams and you could not see people empty handed…everyone is armed with a book..or the rather popular Photocpies of notes….the scene was not different in my room..i was deeply engrossed in my studies…..but there came a roar outside

“exam cancelled….exams cancelled”….i just dropped outside of my room to discover the news of the exams being cancelled….boogy..woogyy…celebrate was the first thought..but the obvious next thought was why??

A senior professor in the college was man handelled by a set of workers.He was the pillar behind the effort to privatise the messes and other contracts.Pretty obviously he would have got opposition from the workers union,but who knew things would go worse where he would get hit by a group of workers as people claim it to be.

So the teachers are backing him up by protesting.They have given a written letter to the Director of the institute explaining their inability to conduct exams or classes today…well the teachers also have an union to show off…

But why do all unions always try to defend themselves only when they are beng hit in one way or the other….why someone comits a mistake the union never comes to punish them….similar cases with this union too….

Esteemed faculty of the institute being caught in a famous sex scandal and screened on TV9…what a prestige for the institute…even more prestitious is the fact that he continues to teach at the same place even after being convicted…

Esteemed faculties who are supposed to teach values,smoke in the adminitrative area and in front of classes.This might be common everywhere but its time to take it serously….

and many more such stories …why does not the teachers union come to a conclusion and punish such faculties……atleast i have not heard of any such action being taken..

anyways its time to sit back and watch what happens from now on… will keep things posted

orkut with the new look…

Todays morning visit to orkut gave me a surprise…….the new look and feel of the social networking website is awesome……the way communities and Birthdays have been listed is different…the color combinations are different…and above all..the page has been fitted for 1024*768 resolution. Earlier orkut fitted for all resolutions,it used to expand itself for higher resolutions and fitted for 800*600 but now scroll bars will be sen for resolutions lower than 1024*768….whatever the experience is charming…..

The story does not end here…..this is not the same for everyone..many of my friends who visited found the same old theme…..could not really find whats going on….may be they are trying it on valuable users of ORKUT…:):)

Google goes local…

Google India released a much awaited local search…which enables the user to find out local business…anything ranging from dosas to jewelleries..[local.google.co.in]

An usual way of data aggregation…the portal enables business man to add their business to the local search database so that their content can be indexed and can be yielded in the search…

There have been already such services…like tolmolbol.com . This was started by a bunch of BITS Pilani graduates 3 years ago and is quite useful in finding local services…but when google launches the same its all the more new and exciting and people start using it….One obvious reason could be the depth of search that google portal will offer be it any service from them…..whatever at the end its becoming rarely easy to survive in the internet market given these big players poke their nose in each and every service…

Rightly, i had a discussion with few entrepreneurs during PROTO and it was rightly pointed out that, in the internet boom of these days there are far too many players than success and so the success rate will be very less…owing to the major players such activities

Back to olden days….

What would happen in todays world if in an engineering college there are no classromms free to take the class???easy…cancel the class.the students  and the teacher would be all the more happy to do that……but the case is different here at NIT Warangal……..CSE Dept

The rules are so strict that a teacher was forced to take classes under the tree…..wait a minute..am not kidding and it happened…… The teacher claims that the administration has insisted on the fact that no classes shud be cancelled…but did they force even in an extreme situation..may be not…but the teacher was  witty enuf to show that the administration is strict by taking classes under the tree….and i am sure such situations are more to come in the future given the way administration is…

“FeedBurner has a magic wand for feeds”

Try using Feedburner and i am sure you will spell the above Caption for eternity.The tool is very useful and handy when it comes to burning a Feed be it RSS or Atom in to various forms that can help us attract users to our website and increase traffic.

One such handy form was an image that could be embedded in Ur email signature.The image is a gif image that has the last 5 published posts and it shows the caption of all the posts one by one and links to the website.That was really cool.so my Email signature has an image that shows my last 5 posts one by one like a Flash Movie.That is very useful in capturing the mail reader to turn n to my website and so increase traffic.

You can also create many forms of your feed and buid a network around it.You can analyze your blog,monetize it and do what not….FeedBurner lets you play around…But better set of FAQ’s and tutorials would let people get more put of FeedBurner

The uncommonness of the word “FUCK”

When you are in frustration or you happen to hear an unexpected news the next thing u spell out is “Fuck……”…is it not…yes it has become very common to include this is your talk. But i used to wonder how girls reacted to this…and it was indeed the next surprise to see them react differently….

I happened to spend the last weekend with my cousin attending an event at IITM.Its been long since we met or rather never have i interacted much with girls…..so then came the flurry of auspicious words that she started reacting very differently….i took me a while to figure it out, i had to the beg her pardon…a vague incident that was

I wanted to sort this out and broke a discussion with my other close friend from Mumbai…..atleast girls from mumbai ought to take this usual….but no way….be it anywhere girls have common feelings and thoughts…..she says

“i Know that it is a common term these days but whatever i take it offensive….”…Thats what girls feel and that how they live…it cannot be changed so guys beware and dont spell out those auspicious words..

The anatomy of placements and classes

Drop in to the final year study in B.tech , the next thing the sociey will ask you is “Are you placed”….so widespread is the awareness and the importance of getting a job students are under a great pressure to come out with an Offer Letter as early as possible.I happened to do an Internship at IBM ISL.usually when you come out of an Internship sucessfully you are offered a job in the same place…but u shud have completed the project….so with me it toole the first half oc july to complete my roject so my offer was also getting delayed……..beware never go home before getting the offer…..people will throng asking you whether you are placed in Infy or TCS or Satyam and the line up of serices company passionately called as bulk recruiters…..i was faced by one such situation back home and was totally annoyed….but u cany avoid it

Keep this aside when u come back to college for placements its a different situation here……the classes and placements go on parallel and the students face great difficulty then……….

You shud be present in the department to attend classes and at the same time yo also have to attend the screning process for the companies….it is an usual fct that many of us have to attend atleast 5-6 such process before getting placedinfact in some cases even 10-15 interviews….so till u get placed its real tough and screwing time from the Training and Placement officer and your HOD…there is no co-ordination whatsoever between the placment section as to infoming the HOD of the students who are appearing for a company…..i beleive that is a need on the priority basis and ould definetly do some goo to the students..hope the director pops in and solves the issue…..

A perfect motivation for a budding entrepreneur - PROTO

I happened to browse this website proto.in few days before and found the mentioned event interesting….immediately did i get myself register for it……awaiting a good experience there and it did happen……

PROTO the second edition was an awesome experience to me in terms of the exposure i had and amount of business ethics i learnt…..surely this will be the stepping stone for the sleeping entrepreneur in me..

Proto was well organized with two paralell tracks…the technology track and the business tracks..

I initially happened to attend the technology tracks unaware o the other..but shifted to the business track later…truly scintillating it was..the speakers had a wide background and were rightly picked for the occasion……there were Venture Capitalists around to fund your ideas…though i did not go up to anone of them describing mine as i am not in the requirement of any money to set up mine ..but it was nice speaking to them

The second day of the event featured 22 startups shortlisted and portraying themselves before 250 od pl at the ICSR auditorium at the IIT Madras.They really reached a learned audience who wold further spread the message.Companies from the spaces of   MOBILE,SOFTWARE,INTERNET,GAMING,ANIMATION and wht not….all these startups had highly enthusiastic people to drive them….at the end of it i made myself a personal oath to be up there next year

FINALly HERE now!!!!!!

23rd july and the gates open to what i plan to etch in my history as a remarkable year in my life.The motivation is two fold

Primarily i have wasted already the past three years of my college life with nothing to remember or boast about…apart from few prizes here and there….secondary reason is the never ending hunger to succeed and prove yourself in life…

So the time has come rather i have late realised the urgent need for a great success…….better late than never….with this hardened spirit i am entering in to the Final year study in my Under Graduate course at NIT Warangal.Partially having tasted success by winning a JOB from IBM ISL,the hunger has grown to achieve and succeed more…hope to fill this space with more success stories…
